Digital Eclipse have announced that their interactive documentary, The Making of Karateka, is coming out on August 29.

The Making of Karateka is more than a regular port of Jordan Mechner’s legendary 1984 Apple II brawler. It also features new playable prototypes, video features, and design documents that show a behind-the-scenes look at the legendary game. The studio later improved on a prototype to provide it into a full-fledged game titled Deathbounce: Rebounded. It can be described as a dual-stick shooter, which is an awesome sub-genre, no doubt about that.

The last time Digital Eclipse did an interactive documentary was Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, and even at that point, they did a really good job by going in-depth into the making of the game. Before making the perhaps-even-more-iconic Prince of Persia, Karateka took the world by storm and made Mechner a household name in the gaming industry. As such, it was great material for another interactive documentary.

The Making of Karateka is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on August 29, 2023. The Switch version is scheduled for September.
