Plantera 2: Golden Acorn Review

Without much in the way of introduction, you're thrown into the task of making a farm from near nothing, other than your ability to catch bugs and line fish in. I can't say the game is much of a slow start really--within a half hour or so, you'll have something of a working farm on your hands as things begin to bustle about. Controls and instructions for how you're meant to plant and decorate are incredibly intuitive, in fact, the game really does no real explaining other than descriptive pictures to show what earns what on any given item. It's an interesting approach, and one that works really well for what's involved.

As your farm grows larger, more followers move in to help. You can do all sorts of cute things like give these robust blue creatures hats, stick pinwheels next to the plants or even invite a new friend along such as a dog or a pig. The additional animals provide their own means of coins too, which in turn are spent to expand, decorate or reinforce your crop from pesky pests. These will come along from time to time and become more frequent the more "food" you have out for them. Birds will swoop down, trying to steal apples. Moles will pop up in the beds with their little rascally faces and try to make a mess of things.

Whilst it is mostly an idle clicker, and a very good one at that, you do have the choice to interact with everything around you. You can pull fruit from trees or bushes, harvesting it yourself, or maybe even just tugging it loose for your blue farmers to come along and pick it up themselves. You can swat at the farm's pests with the immediate satisfaction of shooing them away from the plants, or even catch fish or bugs as previously mentioned. It's a strange, yet satisfying mixture of idle and involved gameplay that seemed to suck me in for much longer than I had anticipated...and, I suspect if you have a little one play this, it'll be far more the case as the cast of character and simple concept can quite easily leave a child charmed.

If you're looking for an idle clicker, a relaxing game, or something just plain cute to look at for a few easy achievements in your library, Plantera 2 is a perfect choice. For what it is, it's a great deal of fun for any age.
