Nintendo have announced that they have just purchased the studio behind Luigi's Mansion 3 -Next Level Games. They've acquired 100% of their shares in order to transition the Canadian outfit to a full first-party studio.

Here's what we can read in the official statement: "NLG's shares are currently held entirely by its owner-directors and employees. A number of owner-directors recently determined that the time is right for them to sell their shares, and NLG, therefore, began exploring potential sale transactions. Completion of the Acquisition will serve to secure the availability of NLG development resources for Nintendo, including development expertise, as well as facilitate an anticipated improvement in development speed and quality by enabling closer communication and exchange of staff with the Nintendo development team."

We will see what the future will bring but given the fact that Next Level Games worked on some fairly popular Nintendo games like Metroid Prime: Federation Force, Wii Punch-Out, and of course, Luigi's Mansion 3, I'd say we have much to look forward to.

According to the purchase details, the acquisition will close on March 1, 2021.
