The Last of Us is arguably one of the biggest HBO shows to be aired this year, and unsurprisingly, the company decided to seize the moment and raise the subscription price for HBO Max ahead of the show’s premiere.

The change went into effect on January 12, making the service’s former $14.99/month price for the ad-free tier go up from $1 to $15.99. This is the first price increase since HBO Max launched back in March 2020.

We don’t know why the company decided to increase the price but they likely want to keep up with the rising costs of inflation, especially after their main competitior (Netflix) did the same. The timing seems right also since the expectations from this adaption are rightfully huge and many people will be willing to pay more to watch the show when it premieres.

Looking forward to seeing how this beloved game will look in a live-action television format. The first episode aired in the US already and those of us in Europe will be able to watch it tonight.
