THQ Nordic has officially announced Darksiders 3. It is currently being developed by Gunfire Games and is set for a 2018 release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The publisher revealed the teaser trailer to IGN. You can check it out below.

Darksiders 3 is the third installment in the Darksiders series following 2012's Darksiders 2. Like its predecessors, it is an action-RPG with a hack-and-slash combat similar to Dark Souls.

The story features the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, where you control the whip-wielding and magic-using Fury, one of the Horsemen, in her quest to defeat the physical manifestations of the Seven Deadly Sins.

The previous two games focused on the Horsemen War and Death. Fury is described as the most powerful of the Four Horsemen. Though it's a direct sequel, Darksiders 3 is set during the events of Darksiders 2.

Gunfire Games has a number of employees who previously worked for Vigil Games, the developer behind the first two Darksiders installments. Vigil Games was shut down when its parent company, THQ, filed for bankruptcy in 2012.

Nordic Games - now operating under the name THQ Nordic - picked up the rights to the franchise in 2013 and recently released remasters of the first two games: Darksiders: Warmastered Edition in 2016 and Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition in 2015.

The announcement came shortly after a leaked Amazon listing surfaced online (via Gematsu). Which shouldn't really surprise you considering the recent trend of official announcements being preceded by a good serving of leaks.

A series of Call of Duty: WWII leaks popped online before publisher Activision finally made things official and, most recently, details on a new Injustice 2 character (The Joker) were leaked prior to NetherRealm Studios' official reveal. Things are now getting out of hand. Publishers and developers should really put a lid on their projects. Unless, of course, the "leaks" were intended.

Now would be a really good time for Square Enix to have a "leak" that centers on a Xenogears sequel/remake or a Chrono Cross sequel/remake/whatever.
