Spike Chunsoft have announced that Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island will be coming to the West on February 27, 2024. This will be the 6th game in the mainline series, building upon The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate that launched back in 2016.
The announcement trailer offers a glimpse of what we can expect from this version of Shiren the Wanderer. Apparently, a great treasure is waiting to be discovered within the dungeons of Serpentcoil Island, and who is better to seize it than Shiren and Koppa? The game embraces a charming, chibi-style aesthetic, aligning seamlessly with the trailer's "back to basics" concept.
Similar to many other roguelike games, this is an experience where death is a common thing. Not only that but when you (eventually) do meet your demise, you lose all the progress you've made during that particular playthrough. That’s why devising a sound strategy and exercising cautious movement is so essential for your survival, especially in the context of procedurally generated, turn-based dungeons that reset with each new attempt. I can envision numerous scenarios that would certainly induce a level of panic beyond imagination.
