That’s all folks….temporarily. Player First Games have announced that they will be taking their cartoon crossover fighter MultiVersus offline this June. The open beta, which initially launched in July 2022, will be closed down for the title’s official launch in “early 2024”.

“Throughout our Open Beta, we’ve been working hard to build the best gameplay experience, and we appreciate all of the inspiration you’ve given us. Our Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity for us and a stepping stone to the next phase of MultiVersus.”

“We know there’s still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps, and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements. We’ll also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking at new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game.”

The FAQ notes that all previously purchased content will transfer over to the main game and refunds will not be issued for anything purchased during the beta phase. Following the server closure on June 25, 2023, you will still have access to the local Vs. matches and the fighter’s training mode, also known as “The Lab”.  The studio suggests that the relaunch will see the arrival of new modes, characters, and features.

MultiVersus is available in open beta until June 25, 2023 on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The full launch is scheduled for early 2024.
