Sony have released new firmware for their current-gen console PS5. Update 22.02-06.50.00 is now available for download, paving the way for the launch of the PS5 premium controller DualSense Edge, which is coming to our shelves on January 26.

Officially revealed back in October 2022, the DualSense Edge will be a component-based version of the standard PS5 controller and it will feature a number of different modules that allow players to customize the premium unit. The new controller will also feature programmable buttons, custom dead-zone positioning, adjustable trigger pressure, and save states for different games and users. And if that’s not enough, the DualSense Edge will come with its own storage case that doubles as a charging dock.

The controller will be priced at $199.99 (£209.99 or €239.99), which is quite a lot of money. It’s basically half the cost of the digital edition of the PS5 itself. Not to mention that Sony themselves noted that DualSense Edge will have a “moderately” shorter battery life than the original DualSense, which makes the new controller a very niche purchase.

Nonetheless, if you’re interested, the PS5 DualSense Edge will be up for grabs on January 26 and it will be available exclusively on the PlayStation Direct store. Starting from February 23, the controller will be offered by other retailers as well (both online and offline).
