Nintendo have expanded upon their financial result release for 2023 and they gave us a closer look at some of their best-performing IP. One thing that came into the spotlight is amiibo. Even though it slowed down quite a bit since 2014, it keeps on rolling nonetheless.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa had the following thing to say about amiibo:

“Next, I would like to discuss amiibo, which we launched in 2014. Tapping an amiibo to an NFC touchpoint on hardware can have all kinds of fun results in compatible games, such as the in-game appearance of the amiibo character or special items. We continue to release new amiibo products each year, and cumulative global sell-in of amiibo figures has surpassed 77 million units.”

While it’s obvious that he wanted to keep investors interested in the idea of amiibo, the truth is - Nintendo has no reason to give up on the concept at this point. They keep on selling well and I don’t see the idea dying any time soon.

Speaking of that, the Splatoon 3 amiibo are set to arrive tomorrow, November 11. Make sure you have your wallet ready.
