Sega have previously announced that they are interested in blockchain gaming and now they are teaming up with a Japanese developer to publish their first ever blockchain video game.

As VGC and 4Gamer reported, the NFT game will be a new entry in Sega’s strategy series Sangokushi Taisen, which can be described as a hybrid coin-op/card game franchise based on the iconic Romance of the Three Kingdoms folklore. This is a huge thing in Japan but not so much in the west. Double Jump Games have been given the green light to develop the game and they will be utilizing the Oasys proof-of-stake blockchain network. We don’t have a lot of details about the game itself but I expect the characters, the artwork, and the collectible items to be distributed as NFTs.

The whole NFT concept is still a topic of controversy in mainstream gaming and while some companies have already jumped on board and are slowly integrating the web 3.0 technology with their games, others are criticizing it and are openly against it. Time will show whether this move will be a good one for Sega.
