Blizzard have confirmed that Overwatch 2 will replace the original Overwatch when it launches on October 4.

Blizzard issued a statement to Stephen Totilo, a journalist working for Axios, and they’ve said:

“Our goal is not to divide our player base and to make the transition to Overwatch 2 as seamless as possible. To that end, when Overwatch 2 launches as a free-to-play live service game on October 4, it will replace the current Overwatch build. Content players have unlocked in Overwatch will automatically carry over to players in Overwatch 2.”

Blizzard have already talked about this and the game director, Allan Keller, said:

“When OW2 launches on October 4, it will be a replacement for the current Live Service.”

…which basically sets in stone that Overwatch 2 will indeed be the only Overwatch game on the market starting from October 4.

Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play and it will launch on October 4 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
