Ubisoft Montreal have taken over the development of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai who worked on it previously.

As a reminder, the remake of the iconic game was delayed twice already and it seems like Ubisoft decided to finally finish what they started.

They’ve posted a statement on that matter on Twitter, but they didn’t explain the reason for these delays: “This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready.”

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was originally supposed to launch in 2020, before being delayed twice.

The original developer of the game is Ubisoft Montreal. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released back in the now distant 2003, and it managed to change the landscape of platform games forever. Basically, without this game, we wouldn’t enjoy titles like Uncharted or Tomb Raider (both of its Crystal Dynamics trilogies).

One part of the statement that is quite intriguing at this point is the reference to regrouping “on the scope of the game.”

Whether this means that the remake will be longer, shorter, larger, or smaller than the original, it remains to be seen. In any case, we will keep you updated.
