Versus Evil have announced that they are no longer planning to bring the 2018 Obsidian RPG Pillars of Eternity 2 to the Nintendo Switch.

The confirmation came in an update posted to the official Discord server and reposted on Reddit ( as spotted by Nintendo Life). An employee responded to a query by saying: “Hey there! Unfortunately, after much deliberation, we have decided not to move forward with Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire for the Nintendo Switch.”

The game was initially supposed to launch in 2019 when it was first announced that it would eventually come to consoles. However, even though the Xbox and PlayStation versions eventually arrived in 2020, the Nintendo Switch version was delayed many times.

The latest news came one year after Versus Evil stopped releasing patches for the first game. Back at the time, the publisher said the team “reached a limit on what we can do” in “regards to the limitations of the hardware”. No specific reason is mentioned for the cancellation of the sequel just yet

While they didn’t work on the console ports, Obsidian (the original Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire developer) is currently working on an RPG named Avowed. Looking forward to hearing more about that project in the near future!
