Adult Swim and Crunchyroll have announced that their anime adaption of Sega’s cult RPG Shenmue is coming out on February 5.


The project was initially announced in September of 2020. Anime streaming service Crunchyroll will be hosting the subtitled version outside of Japan, Adult Swim will be broadcasting it on the English dub in the US.


You can find the full plot synopsis on Crunchyroll’s website and here’s what it says: “1985, Yokosuka. Ryo Hazuki has trained to master the Hazuki Style Jujitsu under his strict father in the Hazuki Dojo from his childhood. However, one day a mysterious man named Lan Di murders his father and takes the “mirror” his father was protecting. Ryo is determined to find the truth behind his father’s murder, but soon finds himself getting stuck in a war between the underground organizations…. Traveling from Yokosuka to Hong Kong, Ryo’s long journey begins!”


The first season will feature thirteen episodes, and based on what we can see in the trailer, they follow the plot of the first game. We will see whether the story continues with the second and the third game soon enough. Make sure you check out the trailer below:
