The new Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will let us play as 2D pixel characters
Nostalgia is all around!
It appears that Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will bring quite a unique twist to the table. Namely, a total of ten events and characters will appear in their original 2D and 3D forms. Seriously, how awesome is that? Having all those assets in one place is just mind-blowing!
The events that will get this kind of treatment: 100m, 10m diving, 400m hurdles, vault, judo, 1000m kayak, long jump, marathon, shooting, and volleyball. Seeing the 8-bit Mario and 16-bit Sonic in these environments is truly epic and hilarious at the same (that was the whole purpose, I guess) and the same can be said for other characters like Judo and Bowser as well.
You'll be able to see all of this in action when the game becomes live. And as it stands, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will launch on November 5 on Nintendo Switch. Here's a little glimpse of how it all looks like:
