Sega has announced the release date of the next installment in the Valkyria Chronicles series. Titled Valkyria Revolution, the game will arrive on PS4, PS Vita, and Xbox One on June 27 in North America and on June 30 in Europe. It was initially released in Japan last January, but only on PS4 and PS Vita.

Revolution is the first game in the series to get an English localization since 2010's Valkyria Chronicles II on PSP. The third game in the series, Valkyria Chronicles III, also on PSP, remains exclusive to Japan. Likely because by the time it was released, the PSP is practically dead outside of Japan.

If you still have your beloved PSP, you can play a fan-translated version of the third game (using custom firmware, of course). And if you need an introduction to the series, you can also play the first game via its PS4 remaster, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, which was released early last year. The first game remains one of the best titles the PS3 has to offer.

Revolution also has a limited edition packaging called "Vanargand Edition." This edition arrives with a 1.5-inch metal pin featuring the Vanargand coat of arms, a CD containing the soundtrack composed by Yasunori Mitsuda of Chrono Trigger fame, and a "stunning outer box." The Vanargand Edition will be available to those who pre-order the game and via limited launch physical copies of the PS4 version.

According to Sega, Revolution won't be a direct sequel to the third game in the series. It's more of a spin-off, taking place in a different universe and featuring all-new characters. The gameplay has also shifted to a more action-oriented style, dropping the turn-based aspect of previous games. But despite these changes, the game still features "familiar elements" like the titular character, Valkyria, and the mineral called "ragnite."

Revolution will be available in physical and digital copies on PS4 and Xbox One. The PS Vita version will only be available in digital.
