Crytek have released a new version of its engine CryENGINE 3 with added support for full Stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) on all supported platforms.

According the the company this was achieved with almost no performance impact or compromise on graphical quality and developers can take advantage of the technology without writing any code or changing assets.

Whether this will translate into any games is yet to be seen.

"In the past year, S-3D has been the most exciting technological development in the world of entertainment. Following the huge success of the movie Avatar, movie theatre companies and TV manufacturers have rushed to support this amazing new way to immerse their audience in their content. Record numbers of people returning to theatres have evidenced the appeal of S-3D for consumers. Now TV corporations, console platform owners and game publishers are looking for unique and compelling S-3D content to deliver to their customers. With CryENGINE 3 we offer a solution that is far superior to any other game development solution out there." says Carl Jones, Director of Global Business Development CryENGINE.
