HomeLan Fed have interviewed Surreal Software's Richard Rouse III about their survival horror game, The Suffering:

HomeLAN - What can you tell us about the storyline for the game?

Richard Rouse III - The game takes place on a secluded island off the coast of Maryland. At the beginning of the game, Torque, the player's character, has been sentenced to death for the murder of his ex-wife and two children. However, Torque has completely blacked out what actually happened, and the player is left unsure whether he killed them or if something more twisted happened. Shortly after being locked into his cell on death row, a mysterious earthquake occurs, through which bizarre, horrific monsters start appearing around the island, killing everything they can. As the player progresses through the game, trying to survive and somehow escape, he discovers that the island has been a nexus of evil for centuries, uncovering the horrors from its past and present. The game ends up being about uncovering what has taken place on the island, as well as uncovering the player's own past.
