I am a PC games collector of 25 years . I also still have my Commodore 64 and 100 games that i still play, and I have over 600 PC games goes backing to the early 90's about 400 of them big box games and the rest DVD cased games.
I much prefer the Pc gaming of the 90's over the 00's, As from around 2003 we started getting the 'multiformat market' where games still got converted to PC, but they were console games in style not PC games in style, To me, a game like Morrowind is a PC style RPG. A Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Dragon Age, while being called RPG's, to me are more like action-adventures.
One of my earliest games, a Mircroprose game from 1993, is a cRPG called Darklands, a historic/fantasy cRPG where they had the ingenious idea to place the player in 15th century Greater Germany (Known at the time as The Holy Roman Empire) where all the superstitions and beliefs the citizens had, like witches and coverns and robber barons and werewolves, etc would actually be real in the game! This shows the originality of PC gaming in the 90's, because we have never seen a PC/console cRPG anything like that in the last 15 years!
