Sad news coming at the end of the year as James McCaffrey, an actor known for providing his voice to the protagonist of the Max Payne series, has died at the age of 65. As TMZ reported, McCaffey passed away after losing his battle with multiple myeloma.


McCaffey debuted as a video game voice actor in 2001’s Max Payne. He also had subsequent voicing roles in the Alan Wake games and Control, where he acted as Edward Carnby in 2006’s Alone in the Dark reboot. He also starred in a number of TV shows and movies in a career that lasted for 35 years.


Remedy have given their condolences, saying: “We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our beloved friend and collaborator James McCaffrey, the iconic voice of Max Payne and Alex Casey. His remarkable talent not only gave life to our characters but also left an enduring impact on our community. Our hearts go out to his family in this time of loss.”


Sam Lake, who provided his face for Max Payne in the first game also gave his condolences, adding: “He was a key part of the Remedy family. He was a brilliant actor. No one could do what he did better than him.”
