The final reveal at The Game Awards was arguably the one I was most looking forward to. The iconic Final Fantasy XIV game director, Yoshida Naoki took the stage and he gave us a new trailer for Final Fantasy XVI. As expected, the trailer looks incredible and this game will certainly be among the nominees for the next year’s award show, mark my words.


Along with the epic video, we also got the release date - June 22, 2023. Mark that day in your calendars. As a reminder, the game will launch as a PS5 exclusive.


As we’ve learned in the meantime, the game will not be open-world and it will instead use a collection of large, collectible areas. Yoshida-san also talked to the press about the overall direction of the series moving away from its turn-based inception to become the leading action RPG franchise in the world.


Final Fantasy XVI is the first mainline entry in the series in nearly seven years. It’s been quite a while, but Yoshi-P being the captain here, I know this will be yet another unforgettable experience.
