Square Enix have announced that an anime based on 2017 action RPG NieR: Automata is in production. It was about time, to be honest!

Square revealed this information via a livestream celebrating the game’s fifth anniversary. The plot will be similar to what we saw in the game and it will follow post-apocalyptic earth taken over by robots. The anime will focus on our android hero 2B and the YoRHa military force.

We don’t have a lot of details, but we’ve got some artwork of 2B to gawk at. Aniplex is involved in the production and they’re the same folks who worked on the recent Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Sword Art Online anime movies. That being said, we still have no idea when and where we’ll be able to see the anime at this point.

NieR: Automata was initially released on the PS4 back in 2017 before coming to PC and Xbox a year later. We hope we will learn more about the NieR: Automata anime and hopefully a Western release is planned as well.
