I am Not a Geek dot com have posted up a review of the Samsung SD-616, 16X DVD.Samsung is a little late getting into the 16X DVD ring, but they are not too late, 16X is still the max speed for DVD-ROM's today. Quote:

"Today we will be looking at Samsung's SD-616 16x DVD. DVD-ROM's seem to have topped out at 16x. I do not believe I have seen one faster, and 16x DVD-ROM's have been out for well over a year. I have a feeling the reason they have not gone past 16x, is that at that speed the disc is spinning very fast, and if it were to go much faster the vibration would be to great. There are ways of improving speed by using a second laser like Kenwood's line of True-X CD-ROMs do, but since DVD-ROMs are still primarily used to watch movies and not transfer data there is not much of a demand for higher speed DVD-ROMs."
