2K Games and Gearbox Software have announced today the development of a sequel to last years hit, Borderlands, a four-player role-playing first-person shooter set on a distant planet called Pandora where the player is out to pursue the legend of an unopened Eridian Vault.

Borderlands 2 will introduce new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment. Together with what is billed as an ambitiously crafted story that lets players reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.

Not much else is known about Borderlands 2, expect the release date, which is sometime after April 2012. Attendees of this years Gamescom Event in Germany (August 17 - August 21) and PAX Prime (August 26 - August 28) will find out more about the game which will be on show.
